The World of James Herriot

We are very pleased to support The James Herriot Foundation Trust which has been set up by The World of James Herriot in Thirsk to provide bursaries for people wishing to become veterinary nurses and for whom the James Herriot stories have been an inspiration.

"This is fantastic news for The James Herriot Foundation Trust and we are very grateful to Ray Rochester and his team at Vetsonic for their generous support for the initiative. The veterinary nurses whom this will benefit will appreciate the Foundation’s support." comments World of James Herriot Managing Director, Ian Ashton.

In addition to an initial donation, Vetsonic has agreed that a proportion of the revenue from one of its leading product ranges, NutriScience, will be donated to the Trust. NutriScience manufactures a comprehensive range of supplements for companion animals, which are uniquely formulated, based on the most recent scientific research in nutrition, at their food-grade facility in Waterford, Ireland.

Dr. Sarah Vermont and Clare Walsh, two of Vetsonic's Directors, have been invited to be members of the selection panel for The James Herriot Foundation Trust.

Ray Rochester, MD and founder of Vetsonic, said: "This is a wonderful opportunity for us to give something back to the industry by helping people to progress their veterinary nursing career. Alf Wight was one of my earliest customers and it is a delight to see how well the original surgery has been retained and maintained as The World of James Herriot. We are very pleased to be the first major supporter of The James Herriot Foundation Trust and through our product revenue contribution will build a long-term relationship between us."

Previously owned by the local council, The World of James Herriot is now a privately operated company whose management has a vision to continually develop it and attract more visitors. It attracts over 28,000 visitors from around the world each year.

BCVA 2015

BCVA 2015

We thoroughly enjoyed meeting clients old and new at the BCVA congress in Southport earlier this month. If you didn't catch us there, but are interested in trying any of our cattle products such as Super 7+, Immucol Platinum, Chloromed or the GYN-stick, please get in touch and we'll come out to see you.

We had lots of entries to our 'Win a Calf' competition (of the cuddly toy variety!) and are still ploughing through deciding on the best names, but we'll announce the winners soon! Meanwhile, we were delighted to be awarded the 'Best Stand' – our thanks to the BCVA and to the prize sponsors, JCA Media Group.

Our next event is the London Vet Show – 19th and 20th November – we'll be there on two stands along with NutriScience and Vetericyn/Innovacyn, so if you're going please do stop by and say hello to us!

We are delighted to be involved with 'Veterinary View' - a brand new programme from the British Veterinary Association and ITN Productions - which was launched at the BVA Members' Day on Thursday 24 September.

Here is Vetsonic's part of the programme

Vetericyn VF+ Range

Vetericyn VF+ is an exciting range of advanced wound and skin care, based on hypochlorous technology from Innovacyn.

Vetericyn VF+ works naturally, in support of the animal's immune system – rapidly effective against bacteria and fungi, Vetericyn prepares the wound bed for optimal healing conditions. Using hypochlorous acid (HOCl), stabilised at a physiologically-appropriate pH close to neutral, Vetericyn will not sting and is safe for use in and around the eyes, ears and mouth. In addition to the popular liquid formulation, Vetericyn VF+ is now also available as a 'Hydrogel' – for improved adherence to the site of application. Vetericyn contains no alcohol, steroids or antibiotics and tests free for competitive animals. Vetericyn technology is also available as an 'Otic Rinse' and 'Ophthalmic Wash' complete with dropper caps.

Manufactured by Innovacyn in California, the technology upon which Vetericyn is manufactured has received FDA 510(k) clearance (medical device). In addition, the facility has maintained both ISO 9001 and ISO 13485 certifications along with FDA QSR. Puracyn, the human application of this HOCl technology, has become the standard of care in the USA for wound bed preparation.

Cavalesse®, available from Vetsonic, is a unique nutritional supplement containing nicotinamide, which can help to repair and maintain a healthy skin barrier in horses prone to summer skin allergies.

After being exposed to the allergen, allergic horses can develop a Type I hypersensitivity reaction and excess histamine is released. Nicotinamide has been studied in a number of animals and has been shown to inhibit this inflammatory response – as well as strengthen the skin barrier.

Feeding Cavalesse® is recommended before and during the summer season, to support the horse in having strong, healthy skin for defence against allergens.
